PRAYER FOR SALVATION
| SUMMARY: Realizing how to become a Christian is the most important discovery of your life! Becoming a Christian is more than joining a church or saying a prayer. It is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that will last forever! |
Only Two Choices
You now know that there are only two destinations - and both are eternal: Everyone will either find themselves living for eternity in heaven or existing for eternity in hell.
- Eternity in Heaven - This destination is reserved for those who receive Jesus Christ's gift of eternal salvation. Contrary to popular belief, heaven is not only for the church-goers, the devout, or the "good people." The only stipulation is receiving God's gift of salvation.
- Eternity in Hell is reserved for those who reject Jesus Christ and His Gospel. The Bible sums up the Gospel like this, "That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Hell is described in the Bible as a fiery lake of burning sulfur.
Therefore, although there's much to learn, you now understand that you are a sinner and believe that Jesus Christ came as the one and only Redeemer of sin, which is the work of the Cross. We are glad that you decided to commit your life to Christ. You probably prayed a prayer very similar to this.
| Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen. |
Once you discover how to become a Christian and then accept God's gift, the Bible says that you can be 100% assured of your eternal destination.
1 John 5:11-13 -
"And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
Because you decided to receive Jesus, you have been welcomed to God's family. Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment. Here are some great guidelines.
- Get baptized as commanded by Christ.
- Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ. " that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. " (Romans 10:9)
- Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
- Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
- Go regularly to a local church where you can worship God.
